Being a author while also being a full-time employee is challenging. It’s normally chaotic, but after some time there is a rhythm to it if you’re flexible. This is a typical Tuesday for me where I balance both of my worlds to some degree of success. So come along as we traverse a day in my life.
6:05am: Final Alarm goes off

Yes that is my final alarm. Between my wife and I there are three. This is the last call when I drag my groggy self out of bed to start my day, begrudgingly of course.
6:30am: Help family get ready for the day

Working from home has its perks, but also some responsibilities. Since my commute is a flight of stairs I use the extra time to help my family get out the door. I put together my son’s lunch, make him breakfast, and get my wife’s breakfast ready too. We make our breakfasts for the week 2-3 days at a time.
7:00am: Workday starts
Once goodbyes are done and they pull out of the driveway I sojourn upstairs to start my day. I go over my Daily Schedule excel file and get things ready for my first meeting while answering emails that I didn’t get to the day before.
7:30am: Daily Meeting

First meeting of the day is an hour long and sometimes goes over depending on the depth of discussion that happens. Most mornings I don’t have to present and this was one of those mornings so it was an easy meeting, but still….7:30am.
8:40am: Start Laundry

The meeting ran over so I rush downstairs to get the first load of clothes for the day into the washer. While I am downstairs I grab my breakfast and get dressed for the first on camera meeting.
9:00am: Staff meeting

This is a weekly meeting, but I normally don’t present in it so I usually relax and handle emails or IMs. Sometimes my mind wanders and I jot down some ideas or review what I am going to be drafting later.
10:20am: Post to Socials

I prewrite my social media content so the day of all I have to do it make some minor tweaks before posting.
10:30am: Project 1 Meeting

Time for more work work.
11:00am: Writing time

One of the highlights of my workday. I use my lunch hour each weekday to write on my current project. Today it is working on my second novel “Olympus”. I’ve been averaging about 1000 words a day so it has been working well for me.
12:00pm: Running errands

Today I had to run to the grocery store to pick up some bread and milk. I made the mistake of going when I was hungry, as you can see I got so much more than what I went for.
1:00pm Lunch

1:30pm: Project 2 Meeting

This is my fun project so I really enjoy running this meeting.
2:00pm: Informational Meeting/Fold Laundry

This meeting is run by another department so I just need to listen to the presentation. I multi-task and work through the clean laundry.
3:10pm: Edit Promo Video

I find a pocket of time before my next task to work on an edit for an upcoming video I’ll be posting to promote my novella “When the Candles Burn” that is releasing on November 11. It’s available for pre-order on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
3:40pm: Write and Send Daily Status Reports
Closing up the work day with status reports to leadership and getting through as many emails as I can.
4:00pm: Log off
Just like Fred Flintstone I cut it off when the bell rings.
After work I pick up my son from after school care and we hang out for a bit before I cook dinner. Once my wife gets home we have some family time before it is time to start the bedtime routine. Then it is some TV time before it is off to bed to start the process over again tomorrow.
